Loïc Sécheresse

scenario and drawing

Born in 1972 in Orléans, Loïc Sécheresse grew up in the Berry region, near Châteauroux. Strongly influenced by the few comics he read and reread in his childhood, he soon turned to drawing as a means of expression and sublimation.

After graduating from the Beaux-arts d'Orléans, he launched his career as a freelance illustrator, working to this day for the press, advertising and publishing. At the same time, he gradually explored the comic strip medium via online strips. Loïc then drew the albums Raiju and Raiden, scripted by Stéphane Melchior, adventure stories set in medieval fantasy Japan, published in 2008 and 2009 in Gallimard's Bayou collection. Also published by Bayou in 2013, Heavy Metal is a critically acclaimed, highly personal take on the life of Orléans icon Joan of Arc and her lieutenant, Chevalier Etienne de Vignolles dit Lahire.

Since then, he has published the result of his participation in the 24h de la BD (Love & Kick boxing, 2014, Warum), a collection of strips on adolescence (Mort de LOL, 2015, Steinkis), as well as short stories in magazines and collectives (Professeur Cyclope, La Revue dessinée, Axolot, Les Autres Gens, Doggy Bags). In 2018, his adaptation of the Breton legend of the town of Ys, scripted by Annaïg, was published by Editions Delcourt.  His next album, La Guerre with Thomas Cadène, was published in April 2021. He is also a press cartoonist, and in 2017 took part in the "Battre la campagne" project, launched jointly by Mediapart, La Revue Dessinée and ARTE.

Loïc Sécheresse is a cartoonist always in search of accuracy in gesture and lyricism in his line. From Nantes, where he has lived since 2015, he experiments whenever he can with practices outside his current work, such as animation, live drawing or large-format images.
