Healthcare without taboos - JRS France

rights of minorities

Beginning of this project

We were approached by Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), an NGO working alongside asylum seekers and refugees to welcome them with dignity and defend their rights, in order to combat isolation and social exclusion as far as possible.

The aim was to produce a booklet about the health of exiled people welcomed and accompanied by JRS France, for the volunteers in the association's programs, to inform them and help them better understand some situations, relating to the reception and relationship with the person they are welcoming or accompanying, which can sometimes put them in difficulty.

A guide in two parts

This guide is in two parts: the first presents the need for medical care for exiled people, as well as a summary of the most frequent health problems and the different manifestations of mental health problems.

The second part presents situations frequently encountered in the reception process, and suggests ways of resolving the misunderstandings they may give rise to: if a person appears to have health problems, if he or she is going through a period of psychological suffering, or if he or she is taking drugs.

The artist: Clémentine Fourcade

The guide was illustrated by Clémentine Fourcade, who developed a semi-realistic style that was perfectly suited to it, which required a drawing that was both very precise and very expressive in its depiction of emotions, but whose representations of suffering were light enough not to make the subject anxiety-provoking for volunteers.
