Committing to children's rights

The Ink Link worked with Solidarité Laïque to create an exhibition entitled "Ensemble pour défendre les droits de l'enfant" (Defending children's rights together) to mark the anniversary of the international convention.

Solidarité Laïque is a collective of around fifty organizations "linked to state schools, popular education and the social economy". Since 1956, it has been fighting against exclusion and working to ensure that everyone has access to quality education.

The association is active in some twenty countries and in France, supporting education as "the key to individual emancipation and to social, cultural and economic development, in order to combat inequality and educate for citizenship".

In November 2019, the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) celebrated its 30th anniversary. Passed unanimously by the United Nations, the Convention is still little known and little respected. The need therefore arose to raise awareness among adults and children of its existence and the rights involved. An educational exhibition was chosen to continue the mission of educating people about citizenship and solidarity.

Revitalizing a legal text

The challenge for The Ink Link was to make a legal and institutional text accessible. We asked two artists, scriptwriter Loïc Clément and cartoonist François Duprat, to work with us. Both have been writing and drawing mainly comics and illustrations for young audiences for many years.
With their experience, they have found an angle to tackle children's rights and convey the key information. Two central characters have been created to facilitate dialogue and the presentation of key examples.

The final exhibition

Once the format had been defined - around ten panels - the main rights were put into pictures. The illustrations present tangible situations to which readers can relate. This makes it easier to discover and remember the rights. The exhibition also provides contact details of resource centers for further information or help.

Since its inauguration and first installation, the concise exhibition can be rented here

It comes with an educational booklet containing the 10 comic strips, which will be distributed to schools.
